use Hardware keypad number keys

Is it possible to enable the use of hardware keys to type numbers on Android 2.3 QWERTY phones?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Y Pro, and it would help to have the numbers typed from keypad, since the screen size is quite small!

regards
kpk

As far as I know hardware keys have always been enabled. Let me know if they don't work for you. You may need to use the modifier keys like Alt, Shift or Ctrl, depending on your keyboard.

Re:use Hardware keypad number keys

I am using genina sudoku on Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos (B5512).
When on the sudoku screen, all that the hardware keys does are the following:
1 E - move to the cell above
7 X - move to the cell below
- S - move to the cell on left
: L - move to the cell on right

Now of the other keys, with Alt or Shift, are working. (Phone does not seem to have any Ctrl key)
Does this behaviour has something to do with the phone hardware?

Regards
KPK

Re:use Hardware keypad number keys

I looked at this phone and it doesn't seem to have dedicated number keys. I'd try pressing the keys with numbers on the top half together with the Alt key or together with the Shift key, but if you tried that and it didn't work, I'd say then this hardware is not supported. Sorry about that.

But in that case, none of the Android QWERTY phones may be having 'dedicated' hardware number keys?
Does it mean that the Sudoku on android is not supported with hardware keys?
(Sudoku in old java phones with numeric keys always works with its number keys)
Kindly see if there is any possibility of enabling it, at least on the paid version?

regards
kpk

Re:use Hardware keypad number keys

The original Android phone - the T-Mobile G1 - has dedicated hardware number keys, that's what was used in the original development.
As the number of phones grew it became impossible to keep one of each on hand to test for all the variations.

We'll look into supporting this sort of hardware configuration in a future release.
